Florentina's Bio

Florentina joined us in October 2016 after moving to the UK from Romania, where she also worked as a Seed Specialist. With both parents working as plant breeders, she grew up amongst the fields and drove a tractor before a car, and then went to Uni to obtain both a BSc and an MSc in agriculture and farm management.

Even at this early stage, her focus was firmly on seed. In particular, she specialised – and still specialises in – cereals; attracted by the pivotal role it has played in human evolution. “If you go back in history, cereals have been here way longer than us,” she explains. “If we didn’t have wheat, there’d be no us!”

Florentina is very detail-oriented, without losing sight of the bigger picture.

Her background means that, “I’m a very technical person and will explain everything in detail,” she says. “The seed rate, how to work it out, how to get the ground ready, when it’s time to spread, when it’s time for fertiliser… as an intricate part of our farmers’ lives and businesses, it’s our job to pick whatever’s best for each situation. When we visit farmers, we get to know them and it’s always pleasing to see a crop through from start to finish, see them turn a profit, and know you’ve been a part of their success!”

Thanks to these intricacies and the individuality of each job, as well as the company culture, Florentina calls Nickerson her “dream job”. When not at work, Florentina is often still outside at the weekend, whether she’s on a country walk or tending to her garden full of tulips, crocuses, and snowdrops in full bloom.
