Sam's Bio

The grandson of Yorkshire dairy farmers, Kent native Sam has strong agricultural DNA. He considers the countryside his office and on the days he isn’t out on farm, he can most likely be found parked up at one of the many beauty spots around Sussex or Kent, catching up on paperwork or calling customers.

Sam graduated from the Royal Agricultural University and initially found himself working in education. As a college farm manager, he enjoyed both learning and teaching, however he quickly realised that he preferred to utilise that skill set in a real-world setting. As someone who likes talking to farmers about farming, Nickerson has proven a perfect fit.

Sam is a huge advocate for field to fork produce, with great experience in growing nutrition crops.

Sam shares 30 head of Hereford cattle and a herd of Lleyn sheep with his dad - though he has a wealth of experience on dairy farms, his real passion is sheep. As an amateur sheepdog handler, what he lacks in skill he makes up for in enthusiasm, and when it comes to growing nutrition-crops, he has both knowledge and passion in droves. A specialist in both grass and maize, who in his own words ‘just really likes grass’.

In rare moments of spare time, Sam - a self-professed ‘terrible engineer’, can be found working on a rusted-out Ford 3000 tractor which he’s slowly restoring to ‘show condition’, or touring the UK with his kids in a Canadian canoe! If he wasn’t in agriculture, Sam muses that he might be an archaeologist; either way, he was never destined to be trapped behind a desk.
