Douglas' Bio

In 15 years, Seed Specialist for South Scotland, Douglas Bonn, has gone from an area with zero Nickerson customers, to an award-winning output with a huge number of happy clientele. Douglas was instrumental in Limagrain winning Silver for technical innovation in our wheat breeding programme at the Royal Highland Show in 2017, and Gold in 2020; the first genetics company to be awarded that by RHASS.

He has a people-first approach to everything he does, which means he’s all about prioritising connection and nurturing your relationship, to ensure you get the best possible results from your seeds.

A passionate advocate for Scottish produce

With a previous stint in account management within the world of broadcasting, Douglas is proud to now call agriculture his home. “I work in the most important industry there is,” he says. “Within that, Nickerson equals pedigree. Sir Joseph was an amazing character who made such a difference to British agriculture. Still today Nickerson is recognised within the industry and is regarded as a brand farmers can trust for quality, service and knowledge.

Outside of work, Douglas is a total foodie and loves to cook. He grows all his own vegetables, has a house full of crazy dogs, and particularly loves to watch Scotland beat England in the rugby! If he wasn’t working in the seed trade, Douglas would either have followed his father’s footsteps and become a large animal vet, or become a chartered yacht captain sailing around the Med. Douglas has two sons one of whom is a sheep farmer in Northumberland, thankfully, grazing Circle Leys.
